I’ve been living into a fairly dark cloud recently, a feeling of emptiness like I haven’t felt in some years. There are not so much thoughts as feelings of numbness, sometimes sadness, as if my spirit decided it wanted a break from the world and went into hibernation.
I got an email from a beautiful spiritual healer the other day, she said, “Polina, I had a vivid dream about you last night…I was healing you, talking to the feeling, and it said it wants you to accept it, that it’s here to teach you a great lesson…I feel that you are on the verge of a deep transformation…”

I had a profound sense on my 25th birthday that this was a year of spiritual growth. In New Mexico, a month back, I feel as if I began my spiritual path and it has been since then that the fog has settled in. Perhaps this is part of the spiritual path, finding a true acceptance of the darkness so that we may come to understand the light…
Sometimes I just wish it wasn’t so hard!
In attempts to stop the cycle of sugar binges that has re-emerged, I’ve committed to a 90 day no flour no sugar diet. I am on day two and I have to admit that I’ve had a mocha, but otherwise, so far, so good. I talked to a woman on Sunday who lost over 100 pounds through following this plan; she said, “my spiritual connection is so much deeper now, my connection to food so much saner…” Yes, I think developing a healthy relationship to food, in which I learn to use food as nourishment rather than as a vehicle for numbness, is a big part of my spiritual journey…looking forward to the path ahead…
On a slightly different note, I had nice moment this morning when I re-assessed a client after 3 months of working together. I was slightly nervous about this because in this period of funkiness, I’ve been experiencing a lot of self-doubt around my abilities as a fitness trainer. I’ve been questioning if I’m really causing change in people’s lives (this topic is a longer entry that I will save for another day…) But after the assessment, we saw that she could now do 30 push-ups, when before she could 12, hold a plank for 2 minutes when before it was one, and she could do 33 assisted pull ups when before it was 15! I was re-reminded that change comes in oh so small increments, sometimes so small we don’t even realize it’s happening. But if we keep working hard, one day at a time, then our bodies will change and we will become stronger than we ever were before!
It is in that spirit that I keep trying to hold a handstand, day by day!
Also, I’d like to acknowledge that a made a commitment a week back to write a healthy tip a day and clearly haven’t followed through! So I’m re-committing to two healthy tips a week, which feels like a more manageable plan. In honor, Healthy Tip: Drinks Lots of Water!! At least 8 glasses!!
Many, many people are dehydrated and don’t even know! Getting enough water is vital to helping the body flush out toxins and help the body metabolize stored fat efficiently.
To help make sure your drinking enough water, try keeping a water bottle by your desk and make sure you drink from it at least once an hour!
Extra Bonus: Drink Clean Water! Paul Chek and others believe the chlorine found in tap water not only kills the bad bacteria, but also the good. Instead, they recommend drinking water from a high quality water filter system, which can easily be installed into kitchen sinks. Evian, Viteel, Trinity, Fiji and Eternal Springs are also good options for high quality bottled water (though not the most eco friendly!)
I hope this day finds you in peaceful, hydrated spirits,
